Even though the new album Free the Universe isn’t out for another week on 4/15 (happy tax day y’all), Major Lazer brought their bombastic party through The Pageant to get fans amped up for the release. Main frontman Diplo, now accompanied by Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, kept renewing the party’s excitement, whether shooting confetti canons, tossing out vuvuzelas, or even traversing the pit in his inflatable hamster ball. Lunice and Paul Devro provided a much darker exploration of electronics as the openers.
While everyone and their neon-clad mother headed over to Bassnectar on the Main Stage, a few of us made our way over to the Critical Mass Tent to check out Major Lazer. The reports from Pitchfork 2010 told us that Switch and Diplo throw a crazy party and one not to be missed. No Chinese lion dancer this time, but the hype man and dancer/contortionist definitely sufficed in keeping bodies dancing.
