Those Darlins @ KDHXTheir new album, Blur the Line, still has a few more weeks before being unleashed (10/1), but Those Darlins still made their way up to give STL an advance listen. The evening festivities took place at the Open Highway Festival at Off Broadway, but the Nashville group took a detour to KDHX that afternoon to record an in-studio set. A few shots from the appointment await you after the jump.

  1. I see a lot of loyalty to Those Darlins, and I can understand why that loyalty exists, but are their new tunes really reaching what they used to deliver? I know I can’t hold a band to being “that rambunctious band” like they used to be, because everybody goes through changes in life and a musician’s music should be indicative of that, but honestly these new songs are cliche, monotone and lackluster. Where is their presence? Also, for as melancholy as their new message is in song, their other mediums (photo shoots, music vids) reaaaally don’t sinc up with their budding direction. Was Kelly really that much of the Brain? Did the addition of Lynwood, like a virus, spread a lack of originality and infect the members with a “let’s be more like this band” bug? I feel a lot of Nikki in “oh god” and always liked the lyrics she wrote on the first album, but what happened to her spunk? In short, those darlins seem now pretty depressed and I have no idea what’s in store for them despite my wish to see them get back on track. Bummer.
