Angel shut down all side conversations in the room as she offered up songs from her album “Half Way Home,” showing that a thoughtful and restrained delivery can still command a crowd’s attention. Her set is a photographer’s nightmare, where every camera click is noticeably heard, but I found myself just fine tucking away my camera after a few shots to listen in closely to her performance.
Water Liars went in the opposite direction, with guitarist Justin Kinkel-Schuster and drummer Andrew Bryant launching into a louder rock ‘n’ roll set and even luring out a few dancers to the venue floor. I missed out on Justin’s previous work during the Theodore era, but I think I might be perfectly content enjoying his current and upcoming material.
