Good gravy, Old Lights are awesome. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the group (LouFest 2011), but there’s something about how they add a dash of raucous bit to their indie melodies that totally has me hooked.
Even though I picked up their first two albums (Action Pants! and Jen-Fi) back in high school, this evening ended up being my first time catching the pop group. Though bassist Karen Ried is headed out of state, it sounds like the band will still continue to chug along with limited shows going forward.
The blistering songs of the Bottle Rockets closed out the evening and the pit packed in to enjoy the hometown quartet. This was my first experience with the historic Missouri band, so I can’t elaborate much beyond being taken aback at how awesomely energetic they were, but Jason over at Speakers in Code put together a list of his Top 10 songs by the Bottle Rockets, so feel free to head over there and compare notes. Happy birthday, Schlafly!
