Bowerbirds @ Off Broadway

When the North Carolina folk band Bowerbirds released their latest album The Clearing, the lead track “Tuck the Darkness In” totally grabbed me and is possibly one of my favorite songs to come out this year. So even when some scheduling changes resulted in the touring quartet (featuring Leah Gibson of Lost in the Trees on cello) going on after another booked show, I was resolute in making the trek out to Off Broadway to still catch the performance. It was a rough Friday morning at work afterwards, but totally worth it, especially considering that attendees were also able to catch intimate session with Strand of Oaks.

Random Notes:

-If you enjoyed Timothy Showalter (Strand of Oaks) and his newfound immersion in Star Trek the Next Generation, you have another chance to see him with Yellow Ostrich on 11/7 at the Gramophone (put on by our friends at IWTAS).

-Bowerbirds asked whether they should visit the Arch or the City Museum. I think they were taken aback by how decisively the crowd shouted the latter. But judging by their subsequent tweets, it seems like they enjoyed it.
