Despite feeling a bit under the weather, Andrew Bird still put on one heck of a show at the Pageant, much to the delight of the full house there that evening.
Comedian Eugene Mirman opened the evening, skewering everything from politics to Facebook ads. It was a brief set of material and after a half hour, the crowd let Mirman go with an applause and prepared for Bird.

With a lush backdrop of spotlights and helixes dangling from the ceiling, the stage was beautifully arranged to match Bird’s compositions. And when he wasn’t busy utilizing the instruments surrounding him to create loops, the Chicago son was using his own whistles as another tool. While the new album, “Break It Yourself” is a gorgeous piece, getting the chance to see Bird create them live is a captivating experience.
