As co-headliners on the Honda Civic Tour, My Chemical Romance brought out a huge response from the Verizon Amphitheater crowd and the band responded by launching into a set filled starting with “Na Na Na” and filled with crowd favorites like “Helena,” “I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” and “Welcome to the Black Parade.”
The Good: As a slightly lapsed MCR fan, this was actually my first time hearing some tracks from Danger Days. Guitarist Frank Iero’s microphone and cardigan combination was delightfully retro. Huge draw of MCR fans in the front rows.
The Bad: The two song shooting limit flew by with such an energetic band. Strange to go from shooting Manchester Orchestra in bright sunlight to the dim and moody lighting of MCR.
The Irrelevant: I finally had the chance to check out Gerard’s comic series, The Umbrella Academy, put out by Dark Horse Comics and it’s a very impressive work worth checking out regardless of whether you follow MCR or not. Supposedly, there was a Star Wars related picture frame on one of the amps.
