Nearing two decades of existence, Blink-182 have grown from basement clubs to sold-out arenas and amphitheaters, but still remain the loveable losers cracking jokes about each other’s moms and sneaking dick jokes into their song lyrics. Instead of growing up, they’ve opted to grow in their vulgar joke per show ratio, but for those of us who have traded in skateboard t-shirts for suits, their latest show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater was a nice throwback to the inner child in all of us that still giggles at a good yo’ mama joke.
The Good: Tom DeLong and Mark Hoppus have one of the better inter-band banter relationships. It’s amazing at how effortlessly they joke with each other. Presumably Travis Barker’s daughter walking up to the side of the drum set platform mid-song to say hi to her dad and watch him play. And while we’re talking about Travis, his drum solo was killer. Heavy preview of songs on the upcoming album.
The Bad: While getting clear white lighting for the first three songs was fantastic, the band rolled out a pretty impressive laser show later that would have been equally fun to shoot in. Wasn’t really a fan of the very high contrast / blotchy video footage.
The Irrelevant: Going through photos, I noticed that Tom has this odd habit of rolling his left foot inward. Taking a listen back through their songs, I think my favorites come from Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and the S/T album after.
