With Simple Math now out for your listening pleasure, it seemed fitting to show off some pictures from Manchester Orchestra’s stop last week at the Pageant.
I’ve been curious to check out the Atlanta rockers for some time and jumped at the chance experience them up close from the photo pit. With thick brooding moods set against melodic hooks, Manchester Orchestra kept the crowd hooked with tension until erupting with the pit shouting alongside singer Andy Hull.
Photo notes: Lighting for the first three songs was a bit finicky, with lots of flash/strobe effects to start the set and very dim lighting for most of the third song. For the rest of the time, it was mostly thick colors. If you have primes, you might want to consider bringing them, and you probably also want to have something with longer range if you want pictures of drummer Tim Very and keyboardist/percussionist Chris Freeman. With my new (used) 80-200mm, I was excited to shoot Very and he definitely didn’t disappoint with his ferocious expressions. With his keyboards and laptop blocking most front angles, Freeman is probably going to be the hardest to capture, especially while he’s seated. Try moving further to the sides and using a long-range lens or keep an eye out for whenever he’s standing and you might be able to grab a quick headshot.
