Aside from providing an opportunity for Jeremiah Nelson to grace St. Louis, the 5 Score Pachyderm evening at Old Rock House turned out to also be a great evening to relax and take in some other interesting musical acts St. Louis has to currently offer.
First up, Dots Not Feathers.
I knew the least about this group coming into the evening but I definitely left hoping to see them as openers again in the future. It was a quiet set, one where you noticed every beer bottle clank or chair scoot, but the ORH room was fantastic for their great vocal work.
Beth Bombara took the stage next and while I’ve seen her supporting Cassie Morgan a few times now, this was the first time catching her solo act. I’ve listened to her album, Wish I Were You, a few times now and was eager to hear them played live. I expected a backing band, but instead we got to see how crazy talented she is in multitasking. I think at one point she was providing vocals, guitar, harmonica and tambourine beats at the same time.
With Jeremiah Nelson feeling ill, The Warbuckles took over the headlining spot and provided a rowdier contrast to Nelson’s subdued set. I wasn’t able to stick around for too much of their set, but did managed to sneak in time for a few shots.
