Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin @ The Firebird - 02.08.11

The last time I saw Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, it was actually my first exposure to the band. Fast forward a few months and several spins of Let It Sway later, the Springfield group was back in town to close out their current tour opening for Tokyo Police Club. It was a cold evening outside, but The Firebird was packed for the occasion.

Random Notes:

-Things started a little differently this time, with Phil Dickey leading off on guitar/vocals for the first half. I’m not sure why I didn’t notice him much last time, but his energy level (especially when drumming) really serves as a great counterbalance for the chill personas of Jonathan James and John Robert Cardwell.

-The band celebrated their final song with Tokyo Police Club joining them on stage to play percussion and Will Knauer capping off the occasion by stage diving into the drumset.

-One of my goals for the entire set was to get a picture of Jonathan James smiling. Achievement unlocked.

-Seeing SSLYBY this second time really made me a bigger fan of the group. When picking concerts to shoot, I’ll generally opt to shoot something new, but SSLYBY might have just made it into that group of bands I’m willing to see multiple times.
