Closing the year with a quick Midwest tour, singer Jill Andrews stopped by Off Broadway to grace the crowd with her voice and a preview of songs from her upcoming album, The Mirror (due March 2011). Aided by only another instrumentalist (keyboards/guitar), Andrews’ voice was the focal point of the evening, going from soft melodies that made the crowd afraid to adjust their chairs or drinks to roaring crescendos that filled the room.
-According to her Kickstarter video, the last EP was a more emotive affair to help her get through some things and the new album promises to be a more “fun” effort, as evident by the songs used during the clip. If you like what you hear, there’s still time to help Andrews out and get some fun prizes!
-While I’ve heard that Off Broadway does this on occasion, it was the first time I’ve been there when they’ve had tables and chairs set up on the floor in lieu of having to stand. It was great from a listener-perspective, but from a photographer-perspective, these shows are always a trade-off between having ample space to shoot but being very obvious to everyone when you are taking pictures. Also, with everyone seated, standing to take a shot is a no-no, forcing you to take upward shots.
