Portland’s Tu Fawning started their set with all four members playing the tambourine, immediately drawing the line in the sand. I’m not really even sure how I’d classify their sound, feeling something like ancient spirituals somehow being channeled through modern instruments. And the crowd awaiting Menomena was either with them or confused by them.
By the end of their set, I was completely with them. It was definitely something unique, even though I really can’t describe why. But at the end of the night, Tu Fawning’s set was the one I enjoyed the most.
