Wait, how have I never heard of Marian Call? The Alaskan songstress somehow lands in the venn diagram intersection of my love of music and comics and fortunately I had some heads up notice from both comic and music fans on Twitter the day before she did an in-store show at Star Clipper Comics. Quirky and casual, Call ran through a folk-tinged set laden with geek and nerd culture references. She even played a typewriter. How do you not like that?
More pics and talk after the jump.
Random Notes:
-Currently, Call is on her tour to do a show in all 49 non-Alaskan states. Sounded like this was her first trip through St. Louis. She seemed to enjoy the Delmar Loop.
-Tons of walker-bys on Delmar stopped in to check out the show. I’m guessing the sight of a lady playing a typewriter and rainstick gets your attention.
-Star Clipper Comics gets crazy hot with a lot of bodies in it. My nose detected traces of what the kids call “con funk.”
-Her “geek” album Got To Fly was based around Battlestar Galactica and Firefly. Coincidentally, my wife was cranking through some more BSG episodes when I got home.
-Due to the posters, I was constantly reminded that I still haven’t seen Scott Pilgrim. You win, product placement.
