It was just about a year ago that I got my first experience of the behemoth that is My Morning Jacket. The last show was somehow contained within The Pageant. This time around it was a bigger party as the Peabody Opera House opened its doors to welcome the Louisville band, along with the powerful sounds of Band of Horses.

Random Notes:
-My time at the Peabody was limited to three songs, so I can’t really opine much about the show. But there’s plenty of people who have recaps, including Speakers in Code, KDHX and RFTMusic. Sounds like it was a good evening.
-Nearly a decade ago, I worked with a guy who went to high school with some of the band members and he was always telling me to check out MMJ before they blew up. I should have taken his advice.
Photo Notes:
-It definitely wasn’t an easy evening. Shooting from the wing is definitely doable, but a tall set of amps on the side of the stage cut off a sizable amount of angles from which to see Jim James. Add in some bombastic color lighting and you’re left with a pretty tough shoot. It definitely made me appreciate last year’s upfront shoot at the Pageant.
-Since photographers enter through the back of the building, I realized last night that I literally have no idea what the venue’s lobby looks like.
