Dirty Projectors made their first St. Louis appearance to a small but engaged audience at The Pageant, ready to hear Dave Longstreth and crew offer up songs from their latest release, Swing Lo Magellan.
Baltimore duo Wye Oak delivered their spacey-fuzz folk to a still-incoming crowd, with the pair low-key with their between-song dialog and instead letting the reverb and drums do all the talking.
Photo Notes: This was seriously the most laid-back shoot I’ve had in months. The simple white lights made for clean and crisp shots and with minimal movement from either member, I found myself done shooting well before the second song even ended and leisurely took the third song to leisurely try out some other angles.

The evening featured several tracks from the recently released Swing Lo Magellan, including the title track and more familiar single “Gun Has No Trigger” right off the bat. Longstreth led the unconventional delivery, with the trio of Amber Coffman, Haley Dekle and Olga Bell providing their incredible harmony tag-teams. Erin Frank has much more to say in her review over at KDHX.
Photo Notes: Lights were certainly challenging during Dirty Projectors, with either thick colors or complete darkness being the norm. White lights punctuated one song (I think “Swing Lo Magellan”), which led me to just camp out for a shots and clicking away during the any brief seconds of light.
