No Abed to accompany Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) this night. Instead, the Community actor / indie rapper had a sold-out crowd at the Pageant to accompany him in mischief.
Chance the Rapper started the evening with quick beats and general hype duties, getting the crowd to join along for some middle finger salutes. Random fact: Chase has crazy six-pack abs.

While the current “Camp” Tour rolled through with a backing band and huge LED screen, all eyes in the crowd were transfixed on Glover. But the young rapper was a challenge to keep up with, bouncing around the stage while rattling off rhymes. All of the kinetic energy rubbed off on the pit, giving the show more of a rock feel, and making it the liveliest crowd I’ve seen in some time. Add in a cover of “Rolling in the Deep” featuring recorded vocals from John Legend, and Glover easily had the venue nodding along.
Photo Notes: Low lights for Chance and high monitors didn’t mix well. As for Childish Gambino, we were treated to a full set of lights for the three-song set but Glover’s constant movement was a challenge to keep up with. The star was definitely the front row crowd, who went nuts for Childish Gambino and I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots.
