Welcome back. Be sure to check out #6 – #10 on our list if you missed it.
Onward to my top five concerts of 2011!
#6 – Blink-182 (Verizon Amphitheater, 8/19) – Such a fun throwback show and it was great to see the trio back to goofing around and having fun.
#4 – Matt & Kim (The Pageant, 6/23) – It’s just crazy how much energy and joy M&K pack into a show. It’s also a joy to shoot a band that so obviously loves playing.
#3 – Beirut (The Pageant, 10/9) – Zach Condon and crew didn’t have to rely on a crazy LED show or gimmicks to have us all entranced. The simple elegance of their music was enough to win over the crowd.
#2 – Doomtree (Kanrocksas, 8/5) – Despite having tons of heavy hitters on the Kanrocksas bill (Eminem, Black Keys, Muse, Flaming Lips), it was the Minneapolis hip-hop crew that came out of nowhere to make the biggest impression on me that weekend.
#1 – St. Vincent (Old Rock House, 10/6) – Absolutely stunning. Between her insane guitar solos and the stunning spotlights, this was a near perfect evening. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get Annie to sign my copy of Strange Mercy. You can’t win them all, I guess.
